Bridge to Bridge

What fun! The annual Bridge to Bridge race for eights has been moved to the
evening, so it can be part of the Australia Day celebrations. Eights are
encouraged to dress up and generally get involved in the fun of it all. If
you're interested, ask around the club to see what crews are forming. The
event will take place on 26 Jan, of course.

Regatta
And the very next day, 27 Jan, regattas resume. That means entries are due
in to the shed THIS Friday 19 Jan. Don't be caught napping - organise your
crews now. More details will appear during the week.

Australian Masters Championships
Masters rowers (rowing age from 27 right up to the 80s) are invited to be
part of the Australian Masters Rowing Championships, to be held in Penrith
at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on 1-3 June. It will be a huge
event with approx 1200 rowers participating. Now is the time to start
thinking about crews and accommodation. Women rowers interested in being
selected for the ACT women's representative quad and eight (both D age
group) should watch for information. The first gathering is likely to be 3
Feb. Sue Donaghue of CRC is the contact, although she is overseas for the
next couple of weeks.

Shed security
Twice recently the steel door has been left unlocked overnight. C'mon
everyone! Shut the door! If you're inside, it's no problem getting out.
Shutting the door has reduced the number of breakins.

Learn to row
There is a huge group of learners on Sundays at 8 am. Reminder to club
members - the Learn to Row program has ALL club singles booked at that time.
They are not available for anyone else. Consider coming down to help the
learners, especially for these first couple of weeks.

The BMRC Executive has decided to explore the purchase of a good, second-hand boat trailer to support participation in rowing events.  Vince, Douglas and Dave are coordinating.

James McCartney attended BMRC meeting to give an overview of the new EDP junior program run by Rowing Australia

The Black Mountain Rowing Club Regatta is being held this Saturday, 1 December.  Participation and support of the Regatta makes major demands on Club members and resources so it is important that everyone pitches in.  Caroline is coordinating.   The event will again feature a Sculls Challenge with prize money, involving some of Australia's best scullers.  Volunteers required!

Significant electrical work has been undertaken around the Club thanks to Peter Wright. The kitchen is fully functioning with the stove and hotplates, the range hood and dishwasher connected. There is a new power circuit for appliances to prevent overloading of the circuit. New external lighting arrangements are now in place with the light above the front door coming on overnight and new fluorescent rear lights being subject to a timer switch, located in the private bay. A new power board has also been installed, which provides a degree of future proofing.

Club members, crewing the Telopea, participated in the Head of the Yarra

Break-in

Unfortunately Club members arriving for the BMRC Regatta found the shed had been broken into again.

The good news is that the steel front door has not been defeated since its installation despite the attempt on Friday night to do so.  The bad news is that the additional security on the roller doors was overcome with entry gained through the private bay.

There is no evidence of vandalism other than that arising from looking for money and other valuables.  Lockers have been forced open and contents strewn.  The Club video camera was stolen.

The new front light was also disabled, presumably by bashing the frame until the flouro lights broke.

Thanks Douglas for installing some temporary security measures on the private members sliding door.

The  BMRC Regatta was successfully held.
