May |
The first of the Winter Time Trials was heavily competed by BMRC with nearly 60 seats over the two days.
On Saturday BMRC dominated the women's event with Dominique winning the event with a very fast elapsed time and Virginia and Kate also putting in excellent times to come 3rd and 4th respectively. We secured a third and fourth in the men's singles with Adrien and Leigh, with Leight achieving his personal best.
On Sunday two of the women's quads achieved first (Kerri Hughes/Kathy Howard/Kate McLoughlin/Evelyn Sommer ) and second (Cecilie Young/Yvonne Poels/Caitlin Goodall/Larraine Champness).

Solar Panels
Solar panels were fitted to the roof of the shed following our being awarded a grant by the ACT Govenrment. There are 12 panels and an inverter generation around 2.kW of power. It is hoped that no only will the panels result in our electricity bill being eliminated but it may allow the Club to generate some income through contributing to the grid.

The Black Mountain 2010 Club awards are on our website.
We did exceptionally well in the WTT series. The published results show Adrian Trowell securing third place for the Club in the men’s singles. Virginia Hayward and Yvonne Poels achieved second and third places respectively in the women’s singles. Peter Davies and Ben Balthazaar won the doubles with Trisha Garrett and Mary Quilty achieving third place. The winning quad was the combination of Cecilie Young, Yvonne Poels, Caitlin Goodall, Larraine Champness, Michelle McDonald and Evelyn Sommer. A BMRC/LTRC combination secured second place in the Fours, comprising Cindy Watt, Stephanie Gollasch, Larraine Champness, Evelyn Sommer and Virginia Hayward.
We were not in the top 3 places for the Col Panton but there was a high level of Club participation – over 30 members racing in 9 boats - and some very creditable performances. |
November |
November saw two crews participate in the Head of the Yarra - a composite women's crew and a BMRC mixed crew. While there were no complaints, it was raced under rare, rainy conditions.

|
December |
Early December saw well over 100 mm of rain over 4 days resulting in the contamination of the Lake from the Queanbeyan sewerage works and and a huge amount of debris flowing down the Molonglo, some of it at significant speed.

A number of rowers across the rowing community sought to clear the Lake including John Simson and Alex Leitch who made repairs to the rowing course.

However, a subsequent downpour resulted in massive flows over Scrivener Dam, destruction of the rowing course and major flooding in Queanbeyan. The photo below shows one of the big buoys going over the dam wall as well as the height of the Molonglo below the Dam.
